SEMINAR FOCUS

Electrophotographic (EP, laser or toner-based) printing, once considered fast, good, but expensive, is now fast, better, AND cheap. Many experts feel EP is poised to compete with low cost (but slower) ink jet printing for home, office and specialty printing.

IMI's EP Printing Technology - The Bright Future Seminar will cover technology basics, current state-of-the-art, development trends and system integration issues critical to the understanding of electrophotography's current and future opportunities and challenges. This seminar will benefit technology managers, product managers, technology strategists and others responsible for implementation of new printing systems. Additionally, component and consumables companies will obtain a better understanding of the requirements for their products in the advancing Color EP world.

EP printing remains the dominant digital printing technology based on the number of pages printed annually. EP printing continues to make technology advancements in product functionality, cost, performance, print quality, connectivity and color printing capabilities. Such advancements are improving EP printing's competitiveness with ink jet printing and are enabling the development of new markets and applications. Applications such as color business printing, photo printing, internet printing, multifunction printers, digital presses, digital color copier/printers, industrial printing and more are providing market opportunities for EP printing technology, even in light of an ever increasingly competitive environment.

IMI's EP Printing Technology - The Bright Future Seminar will provide participants with a comprehensive assessment of technology, application and market development trends that are determining EP printing's role in the overall printing marketplace.

SEMINAR LEADERS

J. Randolph Sanders, President, Torrey Pines Research, Carlsbad, California

Mr. Sanders is President of Torrey Pines Research (TPR) based in Carlsbad, California. He has a broad background in the design and development of high performance digital printers.

He has led programs based on current technologies and has developed and commercialized new technologies. His responsibilities have included technical management as well as product planning for single products and entire product lines. His areas of technical expertise include electrophotography, mechanical and electromechanical design, subsystem integration, paper handling, dry powder and liquid toner development, halftoning, high resolution systems and digital color imaging. In the past, Mr. Sanders has held key engineering management positions with Datagraphix Corporation and Unisys Corporation. He has been awarded several patents related to electrophotographic processes with several additional patent applications pending.

Mr. Sanders earned his BS and MS degrees in mechanical engineering at the University of Florida.

Peter Mason, VP and General Manager, Torrey Pines Research, Rochester, New York

Mr. Mason has almost thirty years experience in the development of printers and copiers including more than twenty years at Xerox Corporation. He is an early developer of laser printing and holds several of the basic patents in the field. He was directly responsible for the first commercial electrophotoographic laser printer, the Telecopier 200. While at Xerox he held positions in product development, technical program management, and electrophotographic materials development. He also worked for several years in the famed Xerox 'Skunk Works' under the direct supervision of William Spencer, Vice President of Corporate Research. His experience has included working with dry and liquid systems, ionographic and laser systems and in direct printing technologies.

More recently he has been directly involved in the design and development of custom ink jet systems. He has formed and managed several product development teams to develop printer products and systems as well as software systems and consumer electronics products. His technical expertise includes technology evaluation and selection, product architecture, complex program management and electrophotographic process physics with an emphasis on development and fusing (mono and color). He maintains a close awareness of new products and technologies and their potential applications.
